Two Bulgarians with New Chance to Live After Successful Transplants

A successful heart transplantation was performed by a team of doctors from the Sveta Ekaterina University Hospital. The recipient is a 49-year-old male fitted with an artificial organ while he was waiting for a donor match. The patient is stable and recovering in hospital under close medical supervision.

Meanwhile, a Lozenets Hospital team performed a liver transplantation on an 18-year-old girl. The patient is currently in the ICU of the hospital where she is being monitored while she recovers.

The two transplantations were made possible after a successful donation managed by the team of University Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment Dr. Georgi Stranski, Pleven. The donor was a 25-year-old man who had been declared brain dead.

The Ministry of Health and Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” would like to offer our condolences to the deceased’s family and thank them for the compassionate decision to donate his organs, giving other Bulgarians in need a new chance to live.
