EAMS Has the National Palace of Culture Lit Red for European Organ Donation Day
On Saturday, 12 October 2019, the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” will mark the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation in cooperation with the National Palace of Culture (NPC). This Day is marked to raise awareness of the significance of this lifesaving treatment in societies, medical communities, and politicians across Europe. Above all, the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation provides an opportunity to honour all organ donors and their families, as well as extend thanks to transplant specialists from all over Europe.
Currently, 1153 Bulgarians are living on the hope of receiving a new organ which would allow them to have a normal life. Since the start of this year, there have been 12 donations in Bulgaria which gave 36 Bulgarians and 7 foreign patients the chance to live.
Jointly and in coordination with the Council of Europe, Bulgaria, via Executive Agency “Medical Supervision”, and the management of the National Palace of Culture will have the façade of the Palace lit in red.
At 7 p.m. on 12 October 2019, NPC will light up in red in solidarity and support of organ donation in Bulgaria. The façade of the Palace will shine in red for 12 hours – until 7 a.m. the following morning.
23 years ago, the Council of Europe and its 47 member states instituted the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation in Geneva. Since then, the day has been celebrated every year on the second Saturday in October in a different country. This year the formal event will be held in London.
