Organ Donation at MPDHAT Dr. Stefan Cherkezov, Veliko Tarnovo
On 23 May 2019, a 51-year-old man from Smyadovo was declared brain dead after a traumatic brain injury. The physicians at the Multi-Profile District Hospital for Active Treatment Dr. Stefan Cherkezov obtained the consent of patient’s family to donate his organs, giving other people a chance to live. The very next day, 24 May 2019, a patient on the waiting list had a liver transplantation at the Lozenets University Hospital.
The organ donation, fifth this year, was made possible by the efforts of Executive Agency Medical Supervision and the Ministry of Health.
