Organ Donation at MPHAT Dr. Nikola Vasilev, Kyustendil
On 12 May 2019, a 47-year-old woman from Kyustendil was declared brain dead following a cerebral haemorrhage. Despite the devastating loss, her family made the noble decision to donate their loved one’s organs and save a life. As a result of their decision, two kidney transplantations were performed at the University Multi-Profile Hospital for Active Treatment Aleksandrovska in Sofia. Executive Agency Medical Supervision organised and coordinated the entire donation process, the fourth so far in 2019, jointly with the Ministry of Health.
