Organ Donation at UMPHAT Dr. Georgi Stranski EAD, Pleven
Four people got a new lease at life after the family of a brain dead man decided to donate his organs. On 9 April 2019, a 28-year-old man from Pleven was declared brain dead. Despite the devastating loss, his family made the noble decision to save other lives. The very same day, the heart was transplanted at the Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease Sveta Ekateriva, the liver – at the Military Medical Academy in Sofia, and the two kidneys were transplanted at the Lozenets University Hospital, Sofia. The Executive Agency Medical Supervision experts, together with their colleagues from the Ministry of Health, organised and coordinated the smooth process of the organ donation. This is the second donation completed so far in 2019.
